Jade gets a Presidents Pride award!
Our cute little Jade was presented with a President's Pride award this morning. I believe one student from each class is chosen each month and they have a little ceremony in the library to hand out awards. Kenzie got one a few months ago but I missed it because I was working. One of the really cool things about cutting my hours back is getting to go to things like this.

Family Vacation Post #4 Redwoods
Yes, we drove through a tree.
This was my favorite part of the trip!! I've been campaigning for a trip to the redwoods for several years. There are a couple of marathons that run through the trees - one is on my list of things to do. I loved, loved, loved the forest.
We took the kids on the Boy Scout Trail. It's 2.6 miles long. Kenzie and Bowen made it all the way. Tali and Jade were about 2 tenths shy.
The kids ran almost all the way in - screaming and laughing at the top of their lungs the whole way. They were playing some sort of game where they were forest fairies.
I've seen pictures of the forest in books and on TV. I've seen the forest in movies (Jurassic Park, Star Wars). You just don't experience the majesty of the trees until you're right next to them. It was like being in another world.

Family Vacation Post #3 - Crater Lake
We booked a spot on one of the boat tours that go around the cauldera of the volcano - totally awesome. But before we got there we had to stop and feed the chipmunks. This was the highlight of the entire trip for the kids.

So, to get to the boat tour, you have to hike one mile down a dirt trail. We were running a little late (see previous post) and so our little kids had to run the whole way. We got there just in time to be the last ones on the boat.
The boat tour was SPECTACULAR!! I totally recommend it to anyone who goes up that way. Our park ranger guide was awesome - He had tons of interesting information and was super friendly - the guy totally loves his job. The inside of the volcano was amazing - so cool. I'd love to do it again when the kids are a little older.
This lake has the cleanest water of any lake in the country. It's also one of the coldest. They said that only one woman - WOMAN - has ever swam across it. She did it in the 1920's before wetsuits. They said that a man had started out with her and he gave up part way across (quitter). But she finished!

We stayed at the Running Y Ranch in Oregon. It was great - we had a two bedroom condo so Rob and I had our own room and so did the girls. Bowen got to sleep on the coveted Murphy Bed. There was a golf course right behind our condo with a walking/running trail that went all the way around - so I got a couple of good runs in.
There were deer all over the place. These were right outside our front door.
These waterfall pics are actually from the journey to Crater Lake - but I'm putting them here. So there is this waterfall. I can't remember what it's called. But Rob was Hell-bend on seeing the thing. Which isn't a problem except that we have a boat tour scheduled and we don't have a bunch of time to waste. So, we find a trailhead that we think goes to the waterfall and we take it. After about 3 minutes of walking, it's apparant to me that this is not the place. A couple of minutes later we pass a couple of hikers who are also on a quest for the elusive waterfall - they say they walked for about 10 minutes more and didn't see it. But Rob wants to still walk in a little more. Whatever. Finally, Rob decides that mabey the waterfall really isn't here and we go back. We pile back into the car to head up to the boat tour and there, on the side of the road, is the waterfall. No hiking required.
We found an old timey train for Bowen to stand next to.

In September, Rob and I took the kids up to Oregon to see Crater Lake and to California to see the Redwoods. These pictures are of one of the hike's we did in Oregon. It was a great trail and the weather was perfect for hiking.

The Kitten is a Menace.....

Rob and the kids put up the Christmas Tree and Ember promptly took up residence in the upper most parts thereof.
She lounges on the branches like she's in a hammock.
She knocks down my favorite ornaments and then Tali throws them on the slate.
Needless to say, my tree has seen better days.
Remarkably, the tree has NOT fallen over. Yet.
